You can find more information about the Community Conversation held on October 22nd, including a summary of the discussions here.
Beginning Tuesday, October 1, Dayton Metro Library will close the Southeast Branch, located at 21 Watervliet Avenue, Dayton, 45420, from 2:30 - 4 pm, Monday through Friday.
“Unfortunately, there has been an increase in teen fighting at the Southeast Branch,” explained Jeffrey Trzeciak, Executive Director, Dayton Metro Library. “After much discussion and consideration, we have decided to adjust the hours until further notice. This closure will allow us the time we need to work with Dayton Public Schools, Dayton Police Department, and our community partners to develop better strategies and policies for managing the influx of teens and behavior issues we see each day at that location.”
New hours of operation for the Southeast Branch are:
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday:
9:30 am - 2:30 pm and 4 - 8:30 pm
Wednesday and Friday:
9:30 am - 2:30 pm and 4 - 6 pm
Saturday:
9:30 am - 6 pm
Sunday: Closed
“This was not a decision that was made lightly. As a public Library we always want to be open and available to our communities,” said Trzeciak. “However, we also have an obligation to provide a safe space. I am hopeful that this temporary change in hours will allow us the time we need to consider new approaches.”
