Join the Conversation
In addition to the Community Conversations held by Dayton Metro Library, other organizations are working toward a solution as well. If you are interested in getting more involved, please check out the information below.
Montgomery County Prevention Coalition
The Southeast Metro Library Workgroup, hosted by the Montgomery County Prevention Coalition, is a group of individuals representing organizations across sectors in our community. Together, we are working to build systems solutions to problems that are surfacing in the Belmont neighborhood, and throughout the city. Our group is concentrating on three root causes of the problems, food insecurity, substance use/vaping, and mental health. Through innovative solutions including programming, partnerships, evaluations, and more we are working to implement long-term solutions. This work group meets every other month, with the sub-groups meeting in the opposite month. The group is open to anyone, to join the group individuals can register online here. With questions, people can contact Lake Miller at lmiller@nccjoh.org
The Collaboratory
The Collaboratory has assembled a small co-creation team that is facilitating a process for a youth-designed, youth-led Teen Center in downtown Dayton. While this process began as a response to the issues around the Bus Hub in spring 2024, teens need to know they are being respected, heard, supported, and invested in, not treated as problem to be relocated. We are currently in the process of a second round of interviews with teens in and around the Bus Hub, the Main Library, and Southeast Branches of the Dayton Metro Library. The next step of our process will be a design charette exercise to allow teens to verbally and visually design the Teen Center that reflects their desires as well as their gifts and talents. For more information contact Peter Benkendorf at peter@daytoncollaboratory.org.
Student Vision for Dayton
The City of Dayton, in partnership with Learn to Earn Dayton has embarked on the city’s first-ever Student Vision for the Future of Dayton. The Student Vision will serve as a roadmap for creating an ongoing platform for young people to have a prominent role in shaping priorities that affect them. Learn more about the initiative here.
