Mobile Hands-Only CPR Training Kiosk Moving to Dayton Metro Library

Dayton, OH, March 31, 2025 – Ohio has the fourth-lowest rate of bystander CPR in the nation. Only one in three people say they feel confident enough to act in an emergency.

The American Heart Association is working to raise awareness around the need for bystander CPR and increase access to training.

Through the American Heart Association, Kettering Health is relocating the Mobile Hands-Only CPR Training Kiosk to Dayton Metro Library’s Main Library. This will be the kiosk’s first location in downtown Dayton.

"The ongoing excitement surrounding the Mobile Hands-Only CPR Training Kiosk is wonderful to witness and truly highlights the reason Kettering Health collaborated with the American Heart Association to bring this kiosk to families throughout the Miami Valley," stated Alina Joseph, executive director of Kettering Health’s Heart and Vascular service line. "Libraries serve as the heartbeat of a community, and we’re so excited to have the kiosk in Downtown Dayton.”

A reception for the mobile kiosk will be held Thursday, April 3, 10 – 11 a.m. The kiosk will be placed in the Atrium in the Main Library at 215 E. Third St. Dayton, Oh.

“We are incredibly proud to host the Mobile Hands-Only CPR Kiosk at Dayton Metro Library. This initiative empowers our community with life-saving skills, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to make a difference in an emergency,” said Rachel Gut, Deputy Director of the Dayton Metro Library. “By providing access and practical training, we are fostering a safer and more prepared community. At Dayton Metro Library, we are committed to being a hub for learning, growth, and community engagement.”

The kiosk provides Hands-Only CPR training to the public in fifteen minutes or less. The kiosk features a touchscreen video program with a brief introduction and overview of Hands-Only CPR, followed by a practice session and a 30-second test. With the help of a practice manikin (a rubber torso), the kiosk gives feedback about the depth and rate of compressions and proper hand placement.

“Most Cardiac arrests occur outside of hospital settings, and it's crucial that people feel confident in their ability to assist loved ones in such emergencies," said Stephanie Yenn, Executive Director of the American Heart Association. "The Hands-Only CPR Kiosk is designed to empower people by teaching them the vital skill of CPR, enabling them to take action and save lives when it matters most."

This training kiosk moves across the Miami Valley to make CPR training widely available as part of the American Heart Association’s mission to train one member of every household in CPR.

The lasting impact of making CPR training widely available:

  • Every year, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital, and more than 20% occur in public places like airports, casinos, and sporting facilities
  • CPR can double or triple a person’s chance of survival.
  • Studies show that Hands-Only CPR is equally as effective as conventional mouth-to-mouth CPR, and people are more likely to feel comfortable performing it.
