Dayton Metro Library is excited to announce that Debi Chess has been named as its new External Relations and Development Director.
Originally from the Dayton area, Chess has spent the last 30 years in the Peace Corp, traveling, living in Chicago and Arizona, earning a graduate degree in Urban Planning and Policy, and raising three children. Upon her return to Dayton, she worked with the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company prior to joining DML.
“I am surprised by the changes in our community,” Chess notes of her time away and returning to the Dayton area. “Our arts and culture sector is growing. While working with DCDC, I was able to connect with local artists whose vision for Dayton was both inspiring and complex.” Regarding her new role at DML, Chess hopes to, “dig deeper into that complexity, uncover intersections and new avenues, and provide space and opportunity for inquiry and connection.”
Chess believes that places and spaces are the containers of our identities. She has had a robust career filled with cultivating such identities in communities of all sizes, and Jeffrey Trzeciak, Executive Director for DML, is eager to see what new opportunities Chess will cultivate with them. “I am excited that Debi has joined our team,” he states. “Her years of experience in the arts, in education, and with urban planning will bring valuable insight to the Library’s mission and goals. With her strong community ties, her connections will be a valuable asset to Dayton Metro Library.”
