Beginning Monday, November 22, the Dayton Metro Library Madden Hills and Westwood Branch Libraries will temporarily reduce their hours of operation in preparation for their merger at the new West Branch Library.
The temporary hours are as follows:
Winnie Johnson, Branch Manager for both the Westwood and Madden Hills Branches, is excited for the new Branch. “The opening of the new West Branch will bridge two communities into one with a wealth of history unifying us under one roof and opening new opportunities for everyone,” she said.
The new West Branch is located at 300 Abbey Ave, in a historic part of West Dayton that is home to famous poet Paul Laurence Dunbar and aviation brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright.
In further preparation of the new West Branch opening, the Dayton Metro Library will host A Novel Night on Friday, November 19, from 7-10 pm. A Novel Night is a fund-raising event planned by the Dayton Metro Library Foundation, with proceeds supporting a Percussion Play Installation by Learn to Earn Dayton for use by the community.
A Novel Night is for guests age 21 and over. Tickets are $75 per person for this cocktail-attire, literature-inspired event. Those who attend can expect plenty of food and drinks, poetry, live music, a silent auction, interactive art activities, and more surprises around every corner of the new Branch. For more information about A Novel Night or to purchase tickets, please visit DaytonMetroLibrary.org/NovelNight.
A free, family-friendly grand opening for the West Branch will be planned for early 2022.
As the move to the new Branch nears opening, patrons are invited to visit the Northwest Branch Library at 2410 Philadelphia Drive or the Main Library at 215 E. Third St. Their operating hours are Monday/Tuesday/Thursday, 9:30 am – 8:30 pm, Wednesday/Friday/Saturday, 9:30 am – 6 pm, and closed Sunday.
