Reading Aloud and Behavior

A new study by the N.Y.U. School of medicine has confirmed what common sense tells us: reading aloud and playing with your young children improves their ability to focus, control their impulses and be less aggressive.  “The key take-home message to me is that when parents read and play with their children when their children are very young — we’re talking about birth to 3 year olds — it has really large impacts on their children’s behavior,” Dr. Mendelsohn said (New York Times). The researchers also found that the more time adults spend reading and playing with their children, the greater the effect on behavior.
