Representation Matters

“Children’s books teach children about who is important, who matters, who is even visible.”

~Louise Derman-Sparks, Guide for Selecting Anti-Bias Children’s Books

In recent years, there has been a lot of attention paid to the lack of diversity in books and the publishing world is making changes. As a result, it’s not quite as challenging to get your hands on books that reflect the many ways people live and look. It is important that all children experience this diversity as they form their ideas about the world, its possibilities and their place in it.
