April is National Volunteer Month, and Dayton Metro Library is lucky to have so many generous volunteers that step up to serve in a variety of ways throughout the year! We average 85 volunteers who provide 350 - 400 hours of service each month.
Because of our amazing volunteers, we have been able to:
- distribute food and hygiene items at 10 Library Branches over 5,000 times in the past year;
- help a child improve early literacy nearly 400 times on a Saturday morning across five Library Branches with a team of trained Reading Buddies; and
- offer classes to English Language Learners who meet with volunteers trained to facilitate a custom curriculum designed by Library staff and partners specifically for New Americans. These classes are offered across the Dayton community between three and five Library locations at any given time.
Volunteers also help our staff with programs, events, and outreach and serve as ambassadors by spreading the word about our services on their social media.
While the numbers are important, they only tell part of the story. Check out the friendly faces volunteering at a DML location near you, right here, opens a new window!
