Africa


Dayton has immigrants and refugees from many African countries escaping armed conflict.  Others come here through the U.S. Diversity Visa, and some come as college students.  The Dayton Metro Library welcomes all those who come to our communities seeking a better life.  The library intentionally purchases books that reflect the diversity of our communities and makes an effort to acquire books in languages other than English.

Children’s books can be helpful resources for supporting children who are developing a sense of their identity, as well as an understanding of those who are different.  There are 54 countries on the continent of Africa, home to more than 2,000 languages and four of the world's 10 fastest growing economies. One booklist could never encompass the rich of diversity coming from the African continent, but here is a start:
