Racism by Design Brings Awareness to Redline Fallout

The Dayton Metro Library will host a free virtual program - Racism by Design: Understanding Redlining & Its Adverse Effects on the Black Community - Thursday, August 19, 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

faheemThis facilitated discussion will be led by Faheem Curtis-Khidr, a History Professor at Sinclair Community College. Participants will learn how Supreme Court cases, Restrictive Covenants, and the development of blockbusting and contract systems reinforce personal racism. The discussion will also include the socio-political fallout of White Flight and the deterioration and ghettoization of African American neighborhoods with a focus on Dayton, Ohio and on tax-driven systems.

This virtual program takes place through Webex and requires advanced registration. It is recommended that participants have a stable internet connection, a microphone-enabled device or headset and, if desired, a webcam. If you do not have those items, you may also join by phone.

This program is offered in partnership with the Montgomery County ADAMHS Board, in conjunction with the Undesign the Redline exhibit. To register in advance for this discussion or for more information about the exhibit or other events, please visit or contact the Library’s Ask Me Line at 937.463.2665.
