Stephen Huffman (Tipp City), Montgomery County Commissioner Judy Dodge, Montgomery County Commissioner Carolyn Rice, West Carrollton Councilmember Amanda Zennie, Judy Mobley, president and CEO of Children’s Hunger Alliance, and Michele Ritchlin, Executive Director of Ohio Afterschool Network

WHEN: Thursday, October 22, 2020, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

WHERE: Dayton Metro Library - West Carrollton Branch, 300 E Central Ave, West Carrollton, OH 45449

WHAT: Elected officials are joining the staff at Children’s Hunger Alliance (CHA) and Dayton Metro Library (DML) – one of CHA’s afterschool partners – to help distribute grab-and-go meals to kids at the West Carrollton Branch. The statewide nonprofit is continuing its partnership with DML, to provide take-home meals to children-in-need for free during distance learning.

Students 18 and younger can pick up five meals at all DML branches to help supplement the meals provided by Dayton Public Schools (DPS) while the schools operate remotely.

The statewide nonprofit partnered with DML this summer to help meet the urgent needs of children amid the pandemic. After a month of serving meals at three DML branches that began in May, the partnership expanded the meal service to all 18 branches as the need to feed kids continued to soar during the public health crisis. The free meal service was initially planned to end when school began, however, DML and CHA decided to extend the food distribution through the end of the year as the demand continued to be high.

Since the pandemic outbreak, CHA remains committed to filling the gaps in areas where children are in-need by collaborating with numerous community partners to offer free grab-and-go meals to kids across Ohio.

The site visit takes place the same day as Lights On Afterschool, a nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities.
