Dayton Metro Library Poetry Contest Winners Announced

Winners and finalists in the Dayton Metro Library’s 2020 Poetry Contest have been announced. Due to COVID-19, there will not be a public awards ceremony this year, but all of the finalists’ poems can be read here.

More than 100 entries were read and judged by the editorial board of Mock Turtle Zine, an independent, nonprofit collaborative that promotes Dayton area writers and artists in both a print publication and online. First Place winners in each age category will be published in an upcoming issue of Mock Turtle Zine. Winners also receive Amazon gift cards.

The 2020 Winners are:

Older Adult

  1. Cathryn Essinger - Plodia Interpunctella
  2. Kathleen Glover - Better Than Wellbutrin
  3. Barbara Astor - Wasteland

Adult

  1. Erica Manto Paulson - St. Anne’s Hill, After the Quarantine

Teen

  1. Julianne Marzluff - The Place Where the Stars Meet the Sea

Grades 5-6

  1. Zoey Deibel - For the Love of Seasons
  2. Peyton Kearns - A Child Like Me
  3. Alina Shroyer - Look at the World Around Us

Grades 3-4

  2. Payton Griffith - Growing Cold
