Dayton Metro Library’s Career Adventures Camp gives middle school students a unique opportunity to explore some of the most in-demand careers in the Miami Valley. This year, Career Adventures Camp goes virtual with an online, weeklong series airing June 15 - 19 at noon on the Dayton Metro Library’s Facebook Page.
Each weekday, viewers will go behind the scenes in the fields of Advanced Manufacturing, Healthcare and BioScience, Construction and Skilled Trades, Aerospace, Logistics and IT. They will meet professionals on the job - from carpenters and manufacturers to healthcare workers and to aerospace specialists - and have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about each job. Career Adventures Camp supports Ohio educational requirements for career exploration.
“Students who are watching during the original air date and time can ask questions and an industry representative will answer live,” said Diane Farrell, Library Director of External Relations and Marketing. “The programs will remain online indefinitely, however, so viewers who watch later can send their questions to CareerAdventures@DaytonMetroLibrary.org, and we will forward them to folks who can answer.”
Viewers will go on virtual field trips Dayton’s water treatment plant, Sinclair’s Unmanned Aerial Systems National Training and Certification Center, Expedient Technology Solutions, Noble Tool, Mechanical Systems of Dayton, Dayton Children’s, and Value Added Packaging.
“This is Dayton Metro Library’s third year hosting Career Adventures Camp,” said Diane Farrell. “Making it an online experience this year allows us to open it up to an unlimited audience, which is an exciting opportunity for us to reach more students across our region who are thinking more seriously about their future.”
How To Watch: Career Adventures Camp airs on DML’s Facebook page June 15 - 19, with a new program starting at noon each day and lasting about 20-30 minutes.
Additional information and resources about each industry will be posted on the Library’s website, along with tutorials on how to use Career Cruising and Lynda.com. Participation in Career Adventures Camp can can be counted toward your Summer Challenge goals! While the program is geared toward middle schoolers, all ages are welcome to learn and enjoy.
