Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati Presents “Harriet Tubman: Straight Up Outta the Underground”

at the Dayton Metro Library

The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati (TCT) brings its touring production of “Harriet Tubman: Straight Up Outta The Underground” to the Dayton Metro Library on Saturday, February 29, 2 - 3 p.m. for a free, one-time-only performance. The powerful, one-woman performance is best enjoyed by children in grades 3-8, teens and adults. It is free and open to the public in the Bassani Theater of the Main Library, 215 E. Third Street, downtown Dayton.

harrietBrandi Langford-Sherrill, TCT Tour Manager and Resident Artist, portrays Harriet Tubman, who gained her own freedom from slavery, then traveled back and forth from North to South over 19 times to free more than 300 others.

“This interactive storytelling experience is especially important for young audiences, because the actor brings this chapter of American history to life,” said Julie Buchanan, Programming Manager for the Library. “She invites the audience along on Harriet Tubman’s journey.”

Langford-Sherrill is a graduate of The School for Creative and Performing Arts. Currently, she is a TCT Resident Artist and Manager of TCT on Tour. She has been with TCT since 2010. In 2013, she began touring with TCT on Tour, performing various roles including Coretta Scott King and Maya Angelou.

The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati is the nation's oldest professional theatre for young audiences, founded in 1919. Its mission is to educate, entertain and engage audiences of all ages through professional theatrical productions and arts education programming.
