Lynda.com Ugrade to LinkedIn Learing at DaytonMetroLibrary.org

Online learning is getting even easier at DaytonMetroLibrary.org! The Library is upgrading its Lynda.com account to LinkedIn Learning to provide highly personalized online learning – free! LinkedIn Learning offers video tutorials and courses in software, creative, and business skills, taught by industry experts.

LinkedIn Learning users can:

  • Access to over 14,500 courses - Including in 6 other languages beyond English: French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Mandarin, and Portuguese.

  • Receive relevant recommendations - You’ll have access to content trending in your field.

  • Ask questions - LinkedIn Learning allows you to ask questions and receive responses from the instructor and other learners.

  • Continue where you left off - You’ll have access to your learning history and certifications of completion after the upgrade.

“Patrons who have been using our Lynda.com platform will see all their progress and playlists carry into the new LinkedIn Learning,” said Holly Varley, Manager of Collection Development. “All of their learning history and certificates will appear on their new account as a part of the upgrade, and they will continue to be able to watch all the same content, bookmark courses, and obtain certificates of completion.”

To access LinkedIn Learning, users need a Dayton Metro Library card and PIN/password. They will also need to have a LinkedIn profile, which requires first name, last name, and email address.

“For anyone who does not already have a personal LinkedIn account, Library staff are happy to guide you through the steps of creating one,” said Varley. “You’ll have the same controls that all LinkedIn members do, including the ability to turn off your profile’s public visibility. You can also choose to not have your profile be searchable on search engines, and you can change your settings anytime on the Settings & Privacy page.”

LinkedIn Learning users who connect to their LinkedIn profile will receive additional benefits, such as personalized recommendations and information on what’s trending based on LinkedIn data.

  • Personalized course recommendations - Takes data and insights of over 575 million members of LinkedIn and suggests the most relevant courses or videos for each user, based on skills known to be important to a given job function or role.

  • Custom and pre-built learning paths - Discover custom and pre-built learning paths that recommend a relevant sequence of videos and courses to gain expertise in a given topic.

  • Social curation - You can “like” a course or share it with your team on LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter.

  • Intelligent search – It’s easier to search and browse courses with the most highly searched names.

  • New topics - It’s easier to find something new to learn with curated topic pages.
