Constellations & Star Stories

Award-Winning Storyteller Omope Carter Daboiku

starsCultural geographer and award-winning storyteller Omope Carter Daboiku shares star stories from different cultures at six Dayton Metro Library locations during the “Universe of Stories” Summer Challenge. “Constellations and Star Stories” is an interactive program geared toward families and children in grades K-4; a story-based constellation craft is included. Attendance at the free program can be counted toward Summer Challenge goals.

Ms. Daboiku has been affiliated with the Ohio Arts Council as an Artist-in-Education since 1990, and with the Cincinnati Arts Association’s “Artists on Tour” program since its inception. She has performed for hundreds of libraries, museums, schools and cultural organizations across the U.S. and abroad.

As an American of mixed ancestry born in the Appalachian hills of Southeastern Ohio, Ms. Daboiku listened to family elders recount stories of talents, skills, conflict and migration. She defines herself as a griot, an oral historian, carrying responsibility for keeping memories alive for the next generation.
