The Dayton Metro Library Board of Trustees today approved a letter of intent to acquire approximately four acres of land from the Northmont City School District to construct a new Northmont Branch Library. The new facility will be located on National Road, adjacent to the Kleptz Early Learning Center. It will be situated on the front portion of a 20+ acre parcel recently purchased by Northmont Schools for future needs.
At approximately 19,000 square feet, the new Northmont Branch Library will be more than 50% larger than the current facility at the Englewood Government Center, and is conveniently accessible from Clayton, Englewood, and Union.
“A key factor in choosing this site is the enhanced opportunity for collaboration with Northmont Schools,” said Tim Kambitsch, Library Executive Director. “Being located near the Kleptz Early Learning Center and any future facility the school district might build on the property is an asset, as is the proximity to Sinclair Community College and the YMCA.”
A Community Forum will be scheduled for June with Ruetschle Architects, designers of the new building. Ruetschle is the architect of record for the Vandalia, Northwest, Kettering-Moraine, Wilmington-Stroop and Trotwood Branch projects.
“Community Forums are an important means of gathering input on the features and design elements people want to see in their Library,” said Jayne Klose, Community Engagement Manager. “The new Northmont Branch will continue to incorporate industry best practices and the features enjoyed at our other new and remodeled facilities, including dedicated spaces for children, teens, tweens and adults; plenty of meeting spaces; updated technology and a dynamic collection.”
The Northmont Branch Library construction project is the 15th out of 17 for the Dayton Metro Library, made possible by a $187 million bond issue passed by Montgomery County voters in 2012. The Trotwood and West Branch projects are currently in progress; sites are still being explored for the Burkhardt and Huber Heights Branches.
The new Northmont Branch Library is anticipated to open in late summer of 2021. For more information call 937.463.2665.
