Poetry Workshops

September at the Dayton Metro Library

In conjunction with the Dayton Metro Library’s annual Poetry Contest, three diverse poetry workshops will inspire participants to pursue their own creativity. All the workshops are free and take place at the Main Library, 215 E. Third Street, in Community Room 2A.

POETRY OF THE PEOPLE | TUE, 9/12 | 7-8 PM
The dynamic Metaphorically Speaking invites both novice and experienced spoken word poets to share your work, get feedback and gain a better understanding of the spoken word form.

POETRY WORKSHOP WITH ED DAVIS | TUE, 9/19 | 6:30-8 PM
Poet Ed Davis offers a refresher on the critical differences between poetry and prose. Write a brand new poem in a class exercise, then share your work in light of your new (or refreshed) knowledge.

POETRY WORKSHOP WITH AIMEE NOEL | TUE, 9/26 | 7-8 PM
Poet Aimee Noel can find inspiration in surprising places - takeout menus, parking tickets, postcards… and so can you! Bring printed memorabilia to share and see what it sparks in this fun workshop.

The Dayton Metro Library Poetry Contest is accepting entries from teen, adult and senior Miami Valley residents during the month of September. Cash prizes will be awarded by the Friends of the Library, and an awards ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, November 5, at the Main Library. For complete contest rules and entry form, visit DaytonMetroLibrary.org/Poetry or call 937-463-BOOK (2665).
