With less than two weeks to go, what are the final pieces of the puzzle before the Main Library’s Grand Opening & Community Celebration on Saturday, August 5?
The final touches on interior signage are taking place now, while the new copiers and security gates are being installed. Meanwhile, Main Library staff members are completing their training on new technology, services and spaces.
“The Library is not only new and exciting for patrons, it’s new and exciting for staff too,” said Cindy Simerlink, Staff Development Coordinator. “A lot of training goes into making sure that staff members are familiar with all the new services and procedures, so they’re ready to assist patrons when the doors open.”
More than 70 staff members will be working at the new Main Library, expecting an average of 2500 visitors each day.
“Staff is learning the layout of a building that has more than four times the public space of the old Main Library,” said Simmerlink. “There are more than twice as many computers and 40,000 square feet of meeting and study space available in this building.”
The Grand Opening and Community Celebration is scheduled 12:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, with outdoor festivities on Patterson Boulevard, a block-long ribbon cutting ceremony, and entertainment on all three floors of the Library. Regular operating hours resume at the Main Library on Sunday, August 6, 1:00-5:00 p.m. For more information, call (937) 463-BOOK or visit DaytonMetroLibrary.org.
