Genealogy and Local History Collections to Begin Move to New Building

The Dayton Metro Library’s temporary Genealogy Center on Maryland Avenue closes permanently at 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 28. After that date, the materials, equipment, furnishings and staff will begin moving into the extensively renovated Main Library, 215 E. Third Street in downtown Dayton. The new Library’s Grand Opening and Community Celebration takes place on Saturday, June 17, 12:00-5:00 p.m.

jamieDuring the transition, there will be no access to Genealogy or Dayton history archives.

“We know this period may be an inconvenience to researchers, but we hope the wait will pay off when the beautiful new Dayton Room opens,” said Jamie McQuinn, Special Collections Manager. “At the old Main Library, Special Collections were tucked away in the basement. We are looking forward being in the new Main Library, where Genealogy and Dayton History will have a prominent, convenient location on the second floor. Researchers will love our new spaces.”

The “Dayton Remembers” collection of digital images and documents will continue to be available on the Library’s website.

The temporary Genealogy Center at 359 Maryland Avenue remains open until April 28:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Friday, Saturday: 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
