Meredith Russo is the author of If I Was Your Girl, the December selection of the Dayton Metro Library’s Proud Reads Book Club. Russo joins the group via Skype on Saturday, December 17, 4:00-5:00 p.m. at the West Carrollton Branch Library, 300 E. Central Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.
Russo’s novel tells the story of Amanda Hardy, a transsexual teen trying to make friends and fit in at high school. Partially inspired by her own experience as a trans woman, the author “demonstrates the challenges teens face in finding ‘the truest version’ of themselves,” according to Publishers Weekly Review. School Library Journal Review calls the book “everything a coming-of-age novel should be - honest, complicated, and meaningful.” If I Was Your Girl is Meredith Russo’s first novel.
Proud Reads meets each month, inviting teens in grades 9-12 to read and talk about LGBTQ books. The author welcomes questions and conversation during her Skype visit. Two autographed copies of the book will be given away at the event.
