Where is Genealogy?

In preparation for the renovation and expansion of the Main Library, the Genealogy collection and Local History are temporarily being housed at 359 Maryland Ave in Old North Dayton. The lower level of the Main Library is closed.  The core collections have been moved to the temporary Genealogy Center.

Items moved include: microfilm readers; genealogy microfilms; Dayton Daily News, Journal, and Herald microfilms; city directories; circulating genealogy materials; and the section of genealogy reference pertaining to the Miami Valley; as well as the local history ready reference collection and current clippings files.

Our hours there are the same as other branches:

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday – 9:30 to 8:30
Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday – 9:30 to 6:00
This department will no longer be open on Sundays.

The Library’s Local History and Archives collections are being stored at a remote location with limited availability until the renovation and expansion of the Main Library is complete, currently scheduled for summer, 2016. Specific items of interest to researchers and library patrons can be retrieved upon special arrangements by contacting, or by calling 937.463.BOOK.

High interest magazines and newspapers are located on the first floor of the Main Library. These materials will be fully accessible until the Main Library closes for renovations in May 2015, and then will remain fully accessible in the Main Library’s temporary location, 120 South Patterson Boulevard (the former Hauer Music building).
