Follow your Child’s Interests

Many young children are fascinated with dinosaurs.  Their giant size, sharp teeth and claws, as well as their ferocity make dinosaurs figures of power and fear that children find irresistible.  Children who are reading or imagining about dinosaurs may be pretending that they are the giant creatures. This imagining helps children to cope with feelings of powerlessness when it comes to giant adults and their control over children.  A child’s interest in dinosaur aggression may come from his or her efforts to manage their own aggressive impulses to bite, hit or hurt.  Children who accumulate lots of facts and information about dinosaurs may feel a sense of control over the dangers that the dinosaurs represent.
