Not all children are naturally drawn to practice their writing skills by drawing. One way you can encourage your child to pick up a writing utensil and draw is to have interesting papers and different writing materials. Index cards, clip boards, envelopes, post-it notes, stencils, journals, notebooks, tablets, and white boards are a few ideas that might spark your child’s interest. If your child tells you that they don’t know how to write their name, ask them to “pretend” to write it; this may take the pressure off of needing to get it exactly right.
