Learning about Feelings

Emotional development is an important emerging capacity during the early childhood years so it is essential that children’s feelings get the same attention as their growing cognitive skills.  These skills include being able to identify and express their own emotions and to accurately read and understand the emotions of others.  Young children are learning to manage their strong emotions, control their behaviors and feel empathy for others.  As their understanding of emotions improves so too does their self-control. Sharing books and talking about times when you both felt similarly is a great way to support your child’s growth.
