Business Information

Find out how to start a business, market a business, and create a business plan during free monthly workshops presented by SCORE, Counselors to America's Small Business. Four different workshop topics will guide the beginning entrepreneur through the process of starting a business, marketing the business, and creating a business plan to use for securing financial assistance and guiding the business through its first years. SCORE workshops are led by qualified counselors who have years of business experience and who volunteer their time so that others can succeed in business.

Registration is required for all SCORE workshops, except the one-on-one counseling held the first Thursday of every month. For more information, call 463-BOOK. Please register at the branches for the other free workshops covering areas such as business basics, planning, marketing and accounting.

      Marketing for the Small Business June 24 at the Main Library, 6:00-8:30 p.m.

      Business Start-Up Basics July 1 at the Main Library, 6:00-8:30 p.m.

      Business Planning for the Small Company August 5 at the Main Library, 6:00-8:30 p.m.

      Basic Accounting for the Small Business Using Software Applications August 12 at the Main Library, 6:00-8:30 p.m.

      Basic Accounting for the Small Business Using Software Applications September 1 at Huber Heights Branch Library, 6:00-8:30 p.m.

      One-on-One Business Counseling is offered by SCORE the first Thursday of every month, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., on a first-come, first-served basis at the Main Library. SCORE counselors can advise beginning entrepreneurs on a number of topics, from creating a business plan, to financing, to marketing and more. Walk-ins welcome!

      DAYTON METRO LIBRARY BUSINESS COLLECTION - Considering starting a business? A wealth of free information is available within Dayton Metro Library's Business Collection. This collection includes materials on many topics, such as planning, financing, starting up, and growing a business. Whether choosing the right idea, writing a winning business plan, or filing taxes and keeping the books, the library has the information needed to succeed. Resources include:

      • Best current books and magazines on business-related topics
      • Popular business titles on audiotape and compact disc
      • Electronic databases for marketing research
      • Research materials in the reference collection
      • Information on and referral to local business associations, incubators, and marketing networks.

        Direct access to many of Ebsco's business resources, including full-text articles from more than 1,100 scholarly business journals, national and international newspapers and much more.

        Complete full-text content of local and regional news, including community events, schools, politics, government policies, cultural activities, local companies, state industries, and people in the community. Paid advertisements are excluded.

        Search for info about a specific business such as address, phone, or size. Also search a geographical area (zip code, area code, county,etc.) by type of business, size of business (employees, sales volume)or other criteria. This database also includes residential data for looking up addresses and phone numbers.

        Business and financial information including company profiles, stocks, bonds, fund reports, industry surveys, and trend analysis

        Find common forms for general office, legal, and real estate use as well as other business-related sources, including government forms.

        Contains magazines and newspaper articles, transcripts, photos, maps and more.
