General Library Assistance
Volunteers are needed to help with an assortment of tasks, including light cleaning, straightening, gardening or other activities depending upon the branch.
Local and Family History Indexer
Volunteers are needed to research back issues of the Dayton Daily News/Journal Herald for obituaries and then transcribe that information onto a worksheet. This information is invaluable to persons tracing their heritage. A great opportunity for someone interested in genealogy or local history. Hours are FLEXIBLE (daytime, evenings and weekends). Must be able to work independently.
Help the Community Relations Department of your library get information out to the public, assist with special events, and make phone calls.
Adopt your favorite shelf! This demanding but highly important position helps to assure that books are readily available for patrons. Volunteers scan sections of books, remove books that are out of order and rearrange the books so that they are in the correct order. Training provided. Hours flexible depending upon your schedule.
Story Time Assistants/Summer Reading Club
Help children discover the joy of reading by becoming a story time assistant! Help with set-up, crafts and cleanup. Must enjoy working with children! A two-hour a week commitment is required; most story time programming is during regular business hours. This is a hectic, but fun volunteer opportunity.
Special Events Volunteers
Throughout the year, volunteers are needed to help staff special events like the annual "Fly-In," a fun event for model plane enthusiasts, the end-of-year summer reading club party, phone banks, greeting guests at events or helping to serve refreshments. Your name is added to a list of volunteers willing to be called a week or two in advance of each event. Can't help this time? That's fine! There's always another fun two-five hour opportunity in the near future!
