Scratch Foods | Matthew Hayden, President

Dayton native Matthew Hayden was born to Phillip and Carleen Hayden in 1971. As a result of being a “sick kid,” Matthew missed many days of school, staying home with Mom and learning to cook at an early age. Matthew’s father travelled extensively, exposed Matthew to world culture and instilled in him a strong work ethic, sense of community, and entrepreneurial spirit.

In 1998, Matthew, Phillip and Christopher Hayden formed Tasca Inc. and purchased The Pourhaus Tavern in Centerville, Ohio. After many successful years of operation, Tasca Inc. purchased the old TW’s building in historic downtown Miamisburg and opened The Chimneys Inn Catering and Banquet Facility. After successfully operating The Chimneys for nearly 8 years, Matthew decided to “go it alone” and open his dream business ScratchFood. After relocating in Centerville, Matthew has decided to pull out all the stops, and create the ultimate creative food endeavor.

Meals from Scratch, a division of ScratchFood, was formed in 2011, focusing on creating convenient, nutrient-dense prepared meals for overly burdened clients (busy schedules and assisted living) as well as healthy lifestyle and disease management (Diabetes, Heart Disease and Cancer).

In 2012, Meals from Scratch began a partnership with a local charity, the Pink Ribbon Girls, a local non-profit organization providing direct support services to individuals and families affected by breast cancer. The company provides nearly 800 meals a week to patients throughout the Dayton-Cincinnati area.

Hayden, a local Chef with more than 15 years of food service experience in the Miami Valley, lost his own mother to cancer in 2006. His decision to launch Meals From Scratch was due in large part to his desire to ease the pain and stress of other cancer victims by offering Chef-Prepared, nutrient-dense meals - something his mother didn’t have access to. By his own admission, his relationship with the Pink Ribbon Girls is the most fulfilling part of his business and he is inspired on a daily basis by the courage of these individuals facing a harrowing journey.
